It was an emotional moment: Dhoni

Dhoni, who rarely shows emotion on the cricket field, tried to be his normal self even as his team-mates ran from the dug out and hugged him one by one after he guided Chennai to a six-wicket victory.

But after that, he was seen yelling to himself as if releasing the pent-up emotions after masterminding a thrilling victory, besides also sealing a semifinal berth for his side.

“It was an emotional moment. Your franchise pays so much money for you, you should at least make the semifinals. After that, you can say it is a lottery,” Dhoni said after the match.
“With the kind of franchise we have got, the kind of team we have, we should have made it to the semifinals before this game. So it was an emotional moment, at least for me,” he added.

Dhoni said S Badrinath (53) and Suresh Raina (46) were the ones who set up the win but at the same time, he did not shy away from describing himself as a player who flourishes under pressure.

“It’s a tough game. You can’t always perform, but if you perform in big games, you get that tag of being the pressure player. But the fact is Raina and Badrinath set up the chase,” said Dhoni, adjudged man of the match for his 29-ball 54.

It was familiar a sight for Kings XI Punjab this season — another chance of victory going abegging — and captain Kumar Sanagakkara conceded as much.
