Rahul targets Modi on Guj education spending

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the campaign for Gujarat Assembly polls gathers pace, asking why the state lags far behind in spending on education.

Continuing his twitter questioning of Modi on Gujarat, Gandhi said the Prime Minister has to give answers for the uninterrupted 22 years of BJP rule in the state.

His 14th question to Modi on Twitter was on education sector, saying how can the dream of New India achieved when private sector is given prominence in place of government schools and colleges.

Accusing Modi of commercialising education at the cost of government schools and institutions and hitting students hard with fee hikes, he tweeted, "why is Gujarat on the 26th position with regard to spending on government education? What wrong has the youth of the state done?"

On Friday, Gandhi demanded an explanation for allegedly helping four private electricity firms earn Rs 62,549 crore between 2002 and 2016.

"Between 2002-16, why did you fill the pockets of four private companies by buying electricity to the tune of Rs 62,549 crore. The capacity of state-run power companies declined by 62%, but why did you buy power at upto Rs 24 per unit, against Rs 3 per unit," Rahul asked on Twitter.
