HC division bench upholds disqualification of Ballari ZP president

The division bench of Dharwad Circuit Bench of Karnataka High Court on Monday upheld the single-member bench's order to disqualify Ballari Zilla Panchayat president C Bharathi from the post.

The petitioner Siddappa had sought the court to disqualify Bharathi from the post of ZP president. He had contended that, Bharathi had obtained false caste and income certificates by concealing information. She was elected to ZP from the constituency reserved for general category and obtained caste certificate from deputy tahsildar of Kuragodu claiming that she belonged to OBC-B category.

Bharathi had moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court's decision. The apex court directed the petitioner to approach the division bench of the high court.

The division bench also ordered the competent authority to suspend deputy tahsildar Suresh.

Interestingly, Bharathi has chaired a zilla panchayat general body meeting in Ballari today (Monday).

Bharathi was elected from Badanahatti ZP constituency in Ballari taluk.
