Shashi Kapoor given state funeral

One of Bollywood's iconic romantic heroes, Shashi Kapoor, was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The last rites were performed at the Santa Cruz Hindu crematorium in the presence of family and friends.
The actor, who was ailing for the last few years, breathed his last, aged 79, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Monday evening.
His three children - sons Kunal and Karan and daughter Sanjana - besides other members of the Kapoor family including Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, were present at the funeral.
Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Salim Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Supriya Pathak, Shakti Kapoor, Hansal Mehta, Nandita Das and Suresh Oberoi, among others, were present at the cremation to bid adieu to the actor who has mesmerised audiences with steller performances.
In the morning, his body was taken from the hospital to his Juhu home and then to the electric crematorium.
The body was draped in the tricolour which was removed before the cremation.
Policemen fired rounds in the air as a mark of respect.
Despite rain, a lot of fans had assembled at the crematorium to bid adieu to the screen icon.
Shashi Kapoor is known for his roles in films such as Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965), Deewar (1974), Kabhie Kabhie (1975), Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1977), Silsila (1981) and Namak Halaal (1982).

Mumbai Police tribute

The Mumbai Police too paid tributes to Shashi Kapoor, who in several films had essayed the role of a cop, including Deewar. "The 'Deewar' between the 'Good' and the 'Bad' that shall always stand tall till many generations to come #RIPShashi Kapoor," the Mumbai Police tweeted.
