Hegde booked for derogatory remarks against CM

An FIR has been registered against Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anantkumar Hegde on Thursday for derogatory comments against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Following the order by a local court, the Devaraja police has booked the Union minister under IPC Section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace). The court has also directed the police to submit a report after conducting an investigation.

Congress leader H L Basavaraj Naik had lodged a complaint with IV Judicial Magistrate First Class,  on Wednesday, seeking action against the Union minister for his derogatory remarks passed on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a Parivartana Rally speech in Kittur, Belagavi district, recently.

Meanwhile, Mysuru City and Rural Congress committees, on Thursday, demanded the arrest of Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde for using the foul language against the chief minister.

Addressing media persons here, DCC president BJ Vijaykumar said, "Anantkumar Hegde had made derogatory remarks against the CM during a BJP rally in Kittur, a few days ago. Following the order by IV JMFC, the Devaraja police has registered an FIR under CrPC 156, he said.

Naik had approached the court after the police refused to register an FIR.

According to advocate AG Sudheer, also Congress party worker, Hegde insulted the CM using singular term with an intention to provoke violence in the state, thereby committing offence under Section 504 of IPC.
