Pelicans die in Mysuru, Kokkarebellur

A pelican stork that was found ill at Kukkarahalli Lake on Tuesday died on Thursday.

The veterinarians inspected Kukkarahalli Lake and denied the possibilities of bird flu scare. Deputy Director for Animal Husbandry Prasad Murthy said, "The samples of the bird has been sent to Bengaluru for the test. The exact reason for the death will be ascertained only after the report."

According to the environmentalists, the lake has turned into a garbage dumping yard. There are around 200 pelicans in the lake.

Kokkarebellur

Pelican death continued at Kokkarebellur, Maddur taluk, where another bird died on Thursday. A female bird died due to bacterial infection on Wednesday. A few birds were also found ill and the authorities are monitoring them.

Veterinarian Dr A Satish said, the samples of the dead birds have been sent to test and the report is awaited.

However, the birds at Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary are safe, confirmed the authorities.
