A herd of elephants roaming about in the forests around Channagiri taluk in Davangere district has gone on a rampage, killed one man and injured two others on Friday morning.
Police said Eshwara Naika, a farmer was killed by the elephant that gored him with its tusks near Hosanagara village while he was busy working in his fields. The Basavapatna police have registered a case.
In a related incident, police said Ganesh (42) was attacked by a tusker while cutting grass at Tyavanige village, Channagiri taluk.
The animal gored Ganesh in the stomach. His relative Jagadish who was with him escaped. Ganesh has been admitted to a local hospital.
A third man Ashok was also attacked by a pachyderm. He sustained minor injuries.
Forest department sources said that the herd of elephants are headed for the Joldal forests.
