Mamata condemns brutal killing of a laborer from Bengal

Kolkata, DHNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly condemned the killing of a labourer from the state in Rajasthan and stated it as disturbing and heinous.

"Very sad incident has happened in Rajasthan. Afrajul Khan a resident of Malda of our state was brutally killed. His family is totally helpless. As a small help to the bereaved family, our government has decided to provide Rs 3 lakh to the family and also one job to the eligible person of the family. Other help from the government will also be provided. I am sending our team of ministers and MPs to visit the family (SIC)," Banerjee tweeted on Friday.

Afrajul, who hailed from Bengal was burnt alive in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district. The accused, identified as Shambhulal Regar and a resident of Raj Nagar, was arrested. The video of the gruesome incident was shot by Regar's nephew and had gone viral on social media.

The family of the victim, has demanded death penalty for the accused.

"Those who killed him like an animal and showed his pictures to the world, should be hanged. No mercy should be shown," the family said.

The Trinamool Congress team leaving Kolkata today for Malda will be headed by Sudip Bandyopadhay and two cabinet ministers of the government.

A massive candlelight procession was taken out in the metropolis by the youth wing of the party this evening, which went up to the Gandhi statue in central Kolkata from Hazra crossing in south.

The silent procession was led by Trinamool Yuva chief and Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee and was attended by a host of state ministers, MPs and MLAs.

"The incident has shook the foundation of humanity and it can only happen in states ruled by BJP. We suspect there is a conspiracy behind the incident. And doubt that the deceased will ever get justice in the state, where people have been murdered in the name of cow vigilantism. It is unfortunate for the people of the country," Abhishek said.
