'Political intervention has police dept'

Retired police officer  and Congress leader G A Bava observed that political intervention had affected the police department's image and functioning process.

He was speaking after releasing former DGP D V Guruprasad's work "Kaige Banda Tuttu" and an interaction on "Crime and Police: Then and Now " in the City on Sunday.

" About 30 years ago, subordinates would be advised by  higher-ups against having close relationship with politicians transgressing professional boundaries. However, situation is totally different these days. Senior officers like  SP, IGP and DGP are seen outside houses of politicians," he said.

Bava added: "  I am in politics, but I oppose political intervention in police department."

Guruprasad that sometimes innocent people end up facing  inconvenience while implementing a law by the police.

" Challenges of policing are different these days. The advent of technology has increased crime rate," he said.  

Retired police officer Jayanthi Shetty said that criminals used latest technology and always thought of innovative methods to commit offences.

Retired police officer Harishchandra, while stressing the importance of informers in solving a case, said:"It's not good to disclose names of informers which often happens these days."
