No non-aviation events at Jakkur without permission: HC

Last Updated 12 December 2017, 19:21 IST

Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the authorities to restrict non-aviation activities at the Jakkur Aerodrome without the court's permission.

Justice A S Bopanna passed the interim order while hearing a petition by Agni Aero Sports Adventure Academy Pvt Ltd -that operates on the Jakkur aerodrome campus- questioning the use of the airstrip for non-aviation activities.

The Academy had moved an interlocutory application with an affidavit stating that they were unable to conduct their flight training despite the court order to schedule it alongside the drag race event at the airfield on December 9 and 10.

Captain Arvind Sharma, who had filed the petition, said nearly 25 aviation enthusiasts had to be turned away since the Academy was unable to accommodate them in the training during those two days.

Captain Sharma had earlier said that a designated aerodrome should be used only for flying activities and not for events like drag racing that could damage the aerodrome's infrastructure, especially the runway.
