Trees cut in Rajarajeshwarinagar, residents file complaint

The residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar have filed a complaint with the local police against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for illegally cutting trees on Tuesday.

The BBMP forest cell is haphazardly issuing notices to cut down the trees in the locality. To stop this the complaint has been filed, the residents said.

"A tree was cut yesterday (Tuesday) claiming that it was posing a threat to the pedestrians. But it would have been enough had they cut a few branches on the top. However, the entire tree was axed," said Joe Hoover, a nearby resident.

"This is not the first time that they are indulging in such activities. They have marked another tree to raze it down. The forest officer Bhanu Prakash, deputy forest range officer and the BBMP are very lenient when it comes to giving permission to chop trees. We have lost 40 and odd trees just for lame reasons," he added.

Sometimes, they cut the trees just to give a better visibility to commercial shops covered with tree branches. This is certainly unacceptable, complained the residents.

Officer Bhanu Prakash was not available for comments despite several calls.
