Music fest from Dec 15

In the memory of Vadiraja and Kanakadasa, saint poets of the Bhakti age, a music festival and symposium is being organised in Udupi on December 15 and 16.

Speaking to reporters here, Gandhian Peace Study Centre, Manipal Aacdemy of Higher Education (MAHE) Director Prof Varadesh Hiregange said that 'Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangeetotsava', as it is called, is being held for the 40th time in succession. The symposium titled 'Vadiraja Kanakadasa Prapancha' is a special event this time. This will take place at Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College premises, Udupi. This is being organised by Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangeetotsava Samithi, Kanakadasa Adhyayana Samshodhana Peetha, Udupi, MAHE, MGM College, Udupi and SaRiGaMa Bharathi Sangeetha Vidyala.

The programme will be inaugurated by MAHE Registrar Dr Narayana Sabhahit while senior journalist A Ishwarayya will be the chief guest and Academy of General Education (Manipal) Administrative Officer Dr H Shanthram will preside over the function.

The speakers include K P Rao (Around the time of Vadiraja-Kanakadasa), Prof Udyavara Madhavacharya (Philosophy of Vadiraja Literature), Dr Padekallu Vishnu Bhat (Philosopy of Kanakadasa Literature); Prof Vee Aravinda Hebbar (Vadiraja and Kanakadasa in Karnatak Music), T Ranga Pai (Vadiraja and Kanakadasa in Hindustani Music). Programmes like singing, violin Mrudangam, tabla and harmonium will also be held on the occasion.
