Tusker returns to Karnataka, injures 3, kills cattle

Among the two elephants that had crossed over the borders of Chitradurga district roughly 10 days ago, one returned to wreak havoc in the district on Friday morning.  The jumbo that strayed back injured three people.

The  tusker  that returned was sighted at Bettakadur at about 7.30 am and later at Thalikatte village, Channagiri taluk.

Here the tusker attacked farmers tending their fields and in Holalkere taluk  it gored an ox.  Those injured are Suresh, Mudiyappa and Basamma.

Forest department officials suppose  that the jumbo is now camping in Thuppadalli forest range.

It may be recalled that two elephants had entered Karnataka's borders on December 3, from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in Molkalmoru taluk.

They went on rampage till December 8,  attacking  farmers, destroying crops and roaming around the region's water-bodies.

The jumbos had then left the state via Katral lake, Halvudara, Sirigere and entered the Bhadra Reserve Forest at Alagalavadi.
