Birthday boy, friend die in mishap

A gas tanker hits the two-wheeler from behind at Silk Board Junction

But it turned out to be the last journey for the birthday boy, V V Varaprasad and his friend Shabbir when a gas tanker hit their motorcycle and ran them over near Silk Board Junction in Madivala here early Monday.

Varaprasad (23), a native of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh and his roommate Shabbir (25), a native of Kerala's Kozhikode district, were returning to their room in Koramangala after having a party at their friends’s place, when the tanker collided against their two-wheeler from behind on HSR Layout Road at 2:45 am, police said.

Varaprasad and Shabbir were working as web designers with a software firmin Marathahalli. Varaprasad was riding the two-wheeler and Shabbir was riding pillion when they came under the tanker's rear wheels.

Madivala traffic police arrested tanker driver Gopalakrishnan and booked a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence under Sections 279 and 304 (A) against him.
The bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortems were conducted at Victoria Hospital.

Rs 20 lakh stolen

Two security guards allegedly made away with Rs 20 lakh cash from the locker by breaking the wall of the office of the head of the Jagadish Air Travels on Sankey Road here on Sunday afternoon.

According to a complaint filed by Rakesh, MD of the firm, the incident occurred probably around lunch time. The two security guards, both from Nepal  were caught on the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the office while they were stealing the cash, have fled. Registering a case under Section 381 of the IPC, Seshadripuram police are on the look-out for the duo.

Producer’s house burgled

Two house burglaries were reported in HRBR Layout in the last 24 hours.
A licenced pistol worth Rs 48,000 and a wrist watch was all that thieves took from Kannada film producer Shivaprasad's house in 6th A Main Road, HRBR Layout when he was away in Delhi for the last 10 days.  According to Shivaprasad, brother of Ramaprasad, producer of the hit Kannada film ‘Jogi’ and a producer in his own right, had left for Delhi on April 10. On his return early Monday, he lodged a complaint with Banaswadi police. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been booked.

In the other incident, thieves made away with gold jewellery worth Rs 81,000 and Rs 1,000 cash from the house of James Carlos in HRBR 9th Main Road by breaking open the back door when he was away during the day on Sunday.

ATM looted

Thieves looted Rs 14 lakh from an ATM centre of Canara Bank in Sarakki in J P Nagar here on Sunday. Bank officials had deposited the sum around 1 pm on Saturday. But, the screen started displaying "insufficient funds" message by the night. The bonnet was found removed but the lock of the door inside the ATM centre, however, was found intact, police said. K G Lakshminarayan, Managar, Canara Bank J P Nagar branch has lodged a complaint with the police.
