Quality of works in Maoist-infested areas is poor, alleges AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sringeri constituency convener D V Nagaraj has alleged that the work taken up under Naxal rehabilitation package in Maoist-infested areas in Koppa taluk is of poor quality.

"The government had sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the work, but the amount has been misused," he added.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Nagaraj said Athikoodige, Guddethota and Agalagandi gram panchayats in Koppa taluk have been identified as Maoist-infested areas. "The government had sanctioned the amount to take up development works. A total of 28 works were initiated using the funds. However, the quality of works are poor," he said.

Violation

"The guidelines of using the local human resources for the works have been violated. No road or bridge has been constructed in the Maoist-infested areas. A sum of Rs 20 lakh was earmarked for the Bilalukoppa-Kallugodde road to provide connectivity to the Deete-Tribal colony in Athikoodige Gram Panchayat. As per the available document, the work has been completed. In reality, work has not been initiated," said Nagaraj.

Further, he said that the AAP has filed a complaint to the Lokayukta on the misuse of the funds.

"The Lokayukta officials and engineers have visited the spot. We have furnished all the details and photographs to the Lokayukta officials."
