'Proper handling of accident victims is vital'

A training in management of trauma victims - International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) course, was held at Nitte Simulation Centre (NU-MEDISIM).

Speaking on the occasion, K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) Dean Dr Prakash P S stressed the need for careful transfer of accident victims from the site of the incident to the emergency department.

He highlighted the risk of improper patient handling and shifting which may end up with secondary injuries leading to the poor outcome. He also urged all to hasten the shifting of trauma patients to an appropriate medical facility for best survival rates.

KSHEMA Registrar Dr Jayapraksh Shetty, Dr Raveendra U S, Coordinator, NU-MEISIM, Dr Major Shivakumar Hirematt, Medical Superintendent, K S Hegde Hospital were present.

More than 35 doctors and paramedical personnel from different institutions were trained and certified by the international agency based in USA.
