A cricket league with a difference

Over 320 visually impaired cricketers are set to stump the audience with their sportsmanship at the Blind Cricket League T10, Season 4 which will begin in the city from December 22.

The three-day event will witness the participation of cricketers from Karnataka's 16 districts. It is organised for the 4th time by the IDL Foundation, an organisation working towards the holistic development of people with disabilities.

The participants comprise of completely visually impaired, partially visually impaired and people with low vision. The funds raised from the event will be used towards providing accommodation and education facilities to the visually impaired youth.

The match has been divided into 4 zones, each zone comprising of 4 districts. The four finalist teams will play against each other as a part of the BCL T10 Knockout matches. Here, the North zone winners will compete with the West zone and the East zone will compete with the South Zone respectively.

The elimination rounds will be held at the BEL Grounds while the final match will be held at the Indian Institute of Management's cricket ground. The final event will be co-hosted by Vikasana, a social service initiative by students of IIM Bangalore and the sports council of IIMB

The Indian Blind Cricket team is also expected to participate in the event.

The final match will be played between the winner of the first semi-finals and the second semi-finals.

"Our aim is to provide a platform for the differently-abled people to prove their mettle. They have the same or more potential than us, all they need is an opportunity to prove themselves. This match will help them showcase their talent to the world at large," said Dr Paul, founder of the IDL Foundation.

Paul is the brainchild of the BCL T10. It has been his dream to orchestrate such an event and to provide a platform for people with disabilities to showcase their true potential.

The foundation is also looking for sponsorships for the event. The event will be inaugurated on December 21 at the steps of the Vidhana Soudha.
