'Dept urged to create 18,000 new posts in pharmacy sector'

A recommendation has been forwarded to the Department of Health and Family Welfare to create 18,000 new posts in the pharmacy sector, Director for Health and Family Welfare Dr P L Nataraj said on Sunday.

He was addressing participants during a programme organised by the Mysuru and Chamarajanagar Government Pharmacists Associationas as part of the 56th National Pharmacy Week. The Director said that many posts are lying vacant in the department and the government has been introducing many new schemes, thus additional posts are required to serve the people. The department also recommended promotion for pharmacists, he added.

As many as 520 pharmacists have been appointed on contract basis in the previous year and we have approached the Finance Department to take measures to appoint permanent staff, he said. Nataraj said that the services of pharmacists is required at primary health care centres. The Director also promised to make prompt efforts to fulfil the demands of pharmacists.

Former director Dr G M Vamadev, Association honorary president B S Desai, Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College principal Hanumanthachar Joshi, Mysuru District Health Officer Dr B Basavaraju and others were present.
