BJP celebrates Gujarat, Himachal victory, Cong upbeat despite defeat

The BJP leaders and the workers celebrated the party's victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections here on Monday.

The BJP supporters, waiving the saffron flag and donning the party cap, greeted each other by distributing sweets and also bust crackers in the city. The workers also raised slogans in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

While the youths took out a mobike rally in parts of the city, BJP district (rural) president M Shivanna said, people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have voted for the BJP considering the pro-people initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP will form the government in Karnataka in 2018, he said.

The party had made arrangements to telecast the poll results at V K Function Hall in Nazarbad, on a huge screen. A large number of BJP workers, including leaders Dr B H Manjunath, Deputy Mayor Rathna Lakshman watched the vote counting process and participated in the celebration.

Cong finds solace in fight

MLA Vasu said, though the BJP got a majority, the Congress party gave a strong fight. The BJP could win the elections as Modi hails from Gujarat. Compared to the previous elections, the Congress has obtained more number of seats. There is a need for a few changes in the Congress, he said.

"During the election campaign, Modi levelled false allegations against former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leaders. Modi had accused Singh of conspiring with Pakistan in the Gujarat election. But, the Election Commission failed to take legal action against Modi. When Congress was in power, in the Centre, no prime minister was indulged in such politics. Not even a corporator issued such a statement," Vasu said.

The MLA said that the poll results will not have any effect on Karnataka. "The Congress party will continue its rule in the state as the government has initiated several development activities. Neither Modi nor BJP president Amit Shah have made any contribution for Karnataka," he commented.

In a press statement, Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited Chairman H A Venkatesh, stated that the Congress party has strengthened in Gujarat and the popularity of the PM has declined. "While the Congress party secured more number of seats, compared to the previous election, the BJP obtained less seats. Farmers, youths and small vendors are with the Congress," he said.
