Former minister and Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the meeting on ISPRL would be held at the DC's office on December 20 to discuss the issue of compensation to the victims whose houses were damaged owing to blasting.

Speaking to reporters, the former minister said that he, along with his party members, struggled to give a justifiable amount to the farmers and other people who lost land. He added that although the ISPRL Company had promised not to take up any blasting in the area, it failed to keep up the promise. A sum of Rs 48 lakh towards damage compensation has been offered for the 48 houses. However, there are a few houses that still need to be compensated. He also accused Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentarian Shobha Karandlaje of failing to take up the issue with the central government. ISPRL is a Central government project. The oil storage unit in Padur would be the largest one in the country. The district administration has initiated the work in the area with police protection as the propped unit would be inaugurated by the prime minister, he added. He said that the people who were arrested for disrupting works have been released. He added that the issue would be raised with the MD, who would be attending the meeting.
