Gujarat results wake up call for Rajasthan

A day after  the BJP scraped a victory in Gujarat, both the ruling  BJP and the Opposition Congress in Rajasthan  looked alarmed.

On Tuesday, both parties held meetings in their respective headquarters in Jaipur.

The Gujarat elections have become a wake-up  call for the 2018 Assembly elections in the states.

"Gujarat election results have given us immense confidence, but at the same time, we have to gear up and spread awareness in districts. We are confident that we will repeat the 2013 tally", Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said.

However, some common challenges faced by both parties, such as internal party conflicts, caste conflicts, reservation issues and resentment of various government employees, remain.

While the Congress is playing the sympathy-for-farmers card and exposing the ruling party over rise in women-related crimes, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned to advertise their four years of performance.

"The Congress is working hard for the people. The improved tally of the Congress in Gujarat is quite encouraging and we are sure that by 2018, we will able to win the hearts of voters in Rajasthan. People are fed up with the BJP government's poor performance at maintaining law and order in the state", Congress spokesperson Archana Sharma said.

The reins of the campaign  for the Congress will be led by two-time chief minister Ashok Gehlot (68), while the BJP campaign will be Ajmer parliamentarian Bhupender Yadav (48).
