City Police Commissioner, T Suneel Kumar, has ordered a departmental enquiry against Annapurneshwari Nagar police station's (Bangalore West) police inspector, Krishna K Lamani, for getting involved in a civil dispute.

Commissioner Kumar has directed the DCP (west) M N Anucheth to conduct a departmental inquiry against inspector Lamani and find out his role in demolishing a compound wall and submit a report. The action is a result of a complaint filed by advocate K B Gopalakrishna on Tuesday afternoon.

Gopalakrishna in the complaint stated that in "Sy.no 33/1 at Srigandhakaval village" he was involved in a land dispute with Honna Gangaiah. A case was registered in city civil and sessions court. The court resolved the issue on December 22, 2007, and divided the property among the two.

Following the court order, Both Gopalakrishna and Ganghaiah sold a part of their respective land share. When the former built a compound around his remaining 5,433 sqft of land, Gangaiah claimed that the wall encroached upon his property and lodged a police complaint about the structure.

Acting on Gangaiah's complaint, inspector Lamani carried out a survey and prepared a biased report, Gopalkrishna claims. On Lamani's orders, the wall was demolished last week. "I tried convincing Lamani with records but he did not listen to me and ordered for a demolition of the compound wall. I incurred a loss of Rs 2 lakh," Gopalakrishna stated in the complaint and further sought action against Lamani who abused his power and acted beyond his limits.

More than 15 advocates met commissioner Kumar on Tuesday afternoon along with Gopalakrishna and submitted a complaint to initiate an action against the inspector. Advocate A P Ranganath said talking to reporters that most of the police stations in the city have turned into a settlement centre of civil disputes. "Police officials are hand in glove with the underworld, realtors and engage in land grabbing," he added. He demanded an action against offenders.
