BWSSB staff oppose health scheme contribution

Hundreds of employees of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have opposed the board's decision to get them contribute  towards  the health scheme when they are still in service.

At least 250 employees have written to the BWSSB chairman, asking him to drop the affidavit that  they must fill to declare their interest in the health scheme.

As per the regulations of the  health scheme that will come into force in  January  2018, retired employees have to contribute a one-time sum depending on their cadre. Rs 100 will be deducted from their pension towards the scheme.

Jagadish K H, chief accounts officer, BWSSB, said the employees were  opposing the contribution clause  since the money would be taken from their  salary. "We just wanted to increase the amount of contribution to make the health scheme more effective. We still need to discuss the matter," he added.

The BWSSB has collected over Rs 2.48 crore as employees' contribution and added Rs 60 lakh to the corpus fund.
