Board a six-car metro train in February

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is likely to approach railway safety authorities in February to seek permission for the commercial operation of six-car trains, the first of which is expected to roll out in the last week of January 2018.

This was disclosed during BMRCL Managing Director (Incharge) Mahendra Jain's visit to the Bharat Earth Movers Limited's factory on Thursday.

During his interaction with BEML Chief Managing Director Deepak Kumar Hota, it was revealed that the BMRCL will get the first three-car unit during the last week of January 2018.

An official in the BMRCL said trial runs will be conducted for some days before approaching the safety authorities. "The commercial operation of six-car trains can begin in February," an official said.

During the visit, Hota assured the BMRCL of "regular supply of three-car units from May/June 2018 onwards at the rate of two to three units per month and complete the conversion of the entire 50 train sets into six-car train sets by June 2019, a BMRCL," a press release said.
