Rupani govt in Gujarat to be sworn-in on Dec 26

Rupani govt in Gujarat to be sworn-in on Dec 26

Bharatiya Janata Party officially laid claim to form a new government in Gujarat on Saturday.

A delegation, including state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and senior BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, met state Governor O P Kohli with a letter staking claim to form the government.

"The new government will be sworn-in on December 26 at 11 am in Gandhinagar Sachivalaya grounds," Jitu Vaghani told mediapersons.

Other than Vijay Rupani and Nitin Patel, who would be sworn-in as state chief minister and deputy CM respectively, several Cabinet rank ministers are expected to take oath of secrecy on December 26. Both, Rupani and Nitin Patel, were elected leader and deputy leader of BJP legislature party in the state on Friday at a meeting of 99 newly elected legislators of the party.

Vaghani said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national BJP chief Amit Shah, chief ministers of 18 BJP-ruled states and Central ministers would attend the swearing-in ceremony.

New faces likely

Meanwhile, hectic parleys are on within BJP  on formation of the new government. With seven ministers of the previous Rupani government losing at the hustings and 27 sitting legislators being unable to make it to the Assembly this time, the new government may see several fresh faces.

With the chief minister from Saurashtra and deputy chief minister from North Gujarat, the party may this time seek to reward   legislators from Central and South Gujarat, regions that have once again helped BJP reduce the deficit in Saurashtra and capture  power for the sixth time in a row.
