10 L families to get free LPG: Manju

District in-charge Minister AManju said on Saturday that the state government will provide free LPG connections to 10 lakh families under Anila Bhagya Scheme which aims to make the state smoke-free.

Addressing reporters here, Manju said that as many as 1,19,453 families in the district depend on kerosene for cooking purposes and 38,000 families will be provided free gas connections in the first phase. The beneficiaries have been identified at Grama Panchayat level and they need not pay deposits for the gas connection, he informed.

As many as 6,215 families in Arasikere Assembly segment, 7,214 families in Belur, 4,527 in Sakleshpur, 1,419 in Hassan, 7,389 in Arakalgud and 5,361 in Channarayapatna Assembly segment, have been identified for the scheme. The minister confirmed that there is no connection between the free gas connection schemes launched by the state and the Union governments.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Poornima was present.
