Aadhaar-based slots for darshan in Tirumala

Aadhaar-based slots for darshan in Tirumala

In an effort to save precious time of devotees and also to make free darshan at the richest temple of the country comfortable, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has decided to implement  an Aadhaar-based slotted sarva  darshan (SSD) system from March 2018.

Devotees desiring to avail free darshan under SSD must bring their Aadhaar cards with them.

According to Ashok Kumar Singhal, TTD executive officer  a trial run organised from 18 December to 23 December yielded encouraging results.

Tokens  were issued in 32 seconds at 177 centers located at 14 places in Tirupati and Tirumala.

All the 9,6047 devotees who came with their Aadhaar cards had their darshan within an hour and a half of the issuance of the SSD token. "We are aiming to reduce the issuance time to 15 seconds," Singhal said.

Under the system, devotees arriving  by the walkway from Tirupati can also get the SSD token, if the number of pedestrian pilgrim darshan crosses 20,000.

Devotees will be allocated a slot for the darshan and will no longer have to wait  in sheds for their turn.  They will be directly able to approach the queue complex at the slot allocated to them.
