Youth killed in road accident

A 27-year-old youth succumbed to injuries he suffered in a road accident in the city on Saturday.

The deceased is Ian Mascarenhas, son of Stephen Mascarenhas (Hemacharya), the editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Weekly and Annie Mascarenhas.

Ian was travelling in a car with four friends when a vehicle coming from the opposite side hit the car at Kuntikana on Friday night. Ian was thrown out of the car and suffered serious injuries. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to the injuries, on Saturday morning. A former student of St Aloysius College, Ian was working for Sinopec Engineering Group in Saudi Arabia and had reached Mangaluru for Christmas holidays on Friday morning.

7 kids hurt in accident

A bus carrying 65 children on an educational tour from a school in Tumkur lost control and hit an auto rickshaw and then rammed into a tree injuring seven kids at Kukkundur in Karkala on Friday.
According to police, a rickshaw was plying on the left side of the road. Meanwhile the bus driver could not control the speed of the vehicle. After hitting the auto, the bus rammed into a tree on the right side of the road.
Two passengers and the driver of the auto rickshaw suffered severe leg injuries.

Robbery in Puttur

Three-masked men robbed gold, cash and ATM card from a house by tying the inmates of the house and threatening them with pistol and knife, at Kedila on Friday night.

The house belongs to Shivashankar Putturaya in Kedila. The dacoits have decamped with Rs 60,000 cash and six pavan gold ornaments. They forcibly obtained the PIN of the ATM card and have withdrawn Rs 40,000.

A case has been registered.

Cops seize 80 kg ganja

The Uppinangady police seized 80 kg ganja after intercepting a car, at Shiradi Adda Hole on National Highway 75, on Saturday.

According to DK SP C H Sudheer Kumar Reddy, acting on a tip off, the police intercepted the car and seized the ganja worth Rs 6 lakh. However, the accused have fled the spot. A case has been registered under NDPS Act.

2 killed in accident

A woman and her daughter were killed on the spot when a KSRTC bus knocked down the two wheeler, in which they were travelling, at Puttur on Saturday. The deceased are Kamila who was riding the two wheeler and her 11-year-old daughter Shrijanya. A native of Tamil Nadu, Kamila had been working in a rubber plantation at Veeramangala in Shantigodu of Puttur taluk for the last one year.
