Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation and Patla Yaksha Ashraya Yojane near Konaje handed over a house built at a cost of Rs 5 lakh to Yakshagana backstage artiste Devappa Gowda on Monday.

Odiyuru seer Gurudevananda Swami and foundation chairperson Patla Sathish Shetty handed over the key of the new house to Gowda during the house warming ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Odiyuru seer said that helping out artistes, who have retired from their profession, is a great deed and hoped that the gesture by Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation will inspire others.

The seer also lauded the contribution of Sri Ramanjaneya Vyayama Shale to the cause.

Patla Satish Shetty said that the house is the first such project by Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation. There are plans to build 100 houses under Yaksha Ashraya Yojane. The construction of the house for Yakshagana artiste Koragappa Naik has also been started.

Mangaluru Assembly constituency BJP committee president Santhosh Kumar Boliyar, Jagatika Bantara Okkoota vice president Aikala Harish Shetty, social worker Prasad Rai Kallimar and Nagesh Guddupal of Sri Ramanjaneya Vyayama Shale were present.

The old house of Devappa Gowda in Guddupal, Konaje, had collapsed in the rainy season. The artiste stayed in his younger sister's house till the new house was built. Gowda was working as a supporting artiste in Kateel Mela.
