Christian faithfuls celebrate X'mas with pomp and gaiety in Mysuru

The Christian brethrens in the city celebrated Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ, with pomp and gaiety on Monday.

Thousands of Christians thronged the churches at midnight to offer prayers. The community people also lit candles and shared greetings with their relatives and friends.

Midnight mass prayers were organised at all churches in the city. A large number of people gathered at St Philomena's Church, St Bartholomeow's Church and other shrines at midnight. People from different communities also visited St Philomena's Church, on the occasion of Christmas, as it is a tourist attraction.

Bishop of Mysuru K A William led the mass at St Philomena's Church. Earlier, he placed the idol of Infant Jesus in the crib on the church premises. Later, the community members participated in the mass prayer. The prayers were offered in Kannada, English and Tamil languages. The community people also offered special prayers for world peace and brotherhood.

The Bishop, in his address, conveyed his Christmas message and explained about the significance of Christmas. William said, the festival is to spread love and peace among the people of the society.

The houses of the Christians were decorated with colourful lights and delicious food was served among guests. The celebration was a day-long affair and the community people distributed cakes and sweets among the people.

MLA M K Somashekar and MLC K T Srikantegowda extended Christmas wishes to the people and the community leaders.
