Plea against change in IPL venue

Last Updated 20 April 2010, 19:31 IST

The petitioner, S Vasudevan, a city-based advocate, has contended that citing security as a reason for shifting the venue to Navi Mumbai was baseless as the stadium had hosted several international matches so far.

Cricket, once known as gentleman’s game was now taken over by ‘Indian Political Leaders’ as the IPL authorities had been indulging in politics and playing the game at their whims and fancies. Even the dealings of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) too is not transparent and lack accountability, the petitioner has alleged.

Citing the incident of printing lower denomination of tickets during the current season, he said that this has been done in order to evade tax liability. The matter has also been raised in the Assembly, the petition said while seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the allegations of betting. Seeking a direction to the IPL chairman to stop him from shifting venue of semi-finals, the petitioner has prayed that the matches be held at Bangalore on the scheduled time and day.

The petition has also sought an inquiry against the IPL chairman following allegations of indulging in betting, match fixing, money laundering and violation of foreign exchange regulations. He has also sought probe by Income Tax authorities.
