Fire near Raja Seat guts forest

A fire in the hill in the vicinity of Raja Seat destroyed 15 acres of forest on Tuesday.

The fire was noticed at the watch tower at 2 pm and engulfed almost half of the hill range by evening. The spread of the fire could not be controlled due to the strong wind.

Since it is a steep area, the fire service personnel could not take the extinguishers there to douse the fire. With the help of local residents, the police tried to douse the fire. Valuable trees and bushes were gutted in the fire.

Forest officials said, "the fire may have been the act of miscreants. A large number of tourists had visited Raja Seat during Christmas. There was entry to the watch tower as well."
