Ballot paper will ensure Cong victory, says Parameshwara

Last Updated 26 December 2017, 17:04 IST

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara said the use of ballot paper will ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly election in the state in the wake of allegations and suspicion about the tampering of electronic voting machines (EVMs) by the party in power at the Centre.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, he said the old system of the use of ballot paper is better than the EVMs and a representation would be given in this regard to the Election Commission shortly.

Stating that Union Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar, who is also BJP in-charge for Karnataka, has secretely met Governor Vajubhai R Vala, Parameshwara said that charges so far that the BJP is misusing the office of the governor against the state government has been now proved to be true.

"The BJP has turned the Raj Bhavan into a political power house. What is the purpose of the Union minister's visit to the Raj Bhavan? The BJP is also politicising the Mahadayi water sharing issue with the BJP-ruled Goa and Maharashtra states. As per the protocol, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar should have written a letter on the issue to either Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or the state government. He has addressed his letter to BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa. Is this not politics?" he questioned.

Explaining about the campaigning strategy of the Congress for the upcoming assembly election, he said, winning the election is of top priority. "In the assembly constituencies where the Congress has won the last polls and has the MLAs, Siddaramaiah will tour. I will tour the constituencies, where the Congress has lost the polls," he said.

He declined to answer a question on the Dalit chief minister's demand from a section of the people. "The issue will be discussed after the election is over. Now, it is not appropriate to discuss the issue," he added.
