5 accused in KHB land acquisition scam get bail

The five accused in the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) land acquisition scam, who had been arrested last Tuesday, were released on bail on Tuesday.

They had been handed over to judicial custody earlier.

The arrested were Assistant Executive Engineer M B Somasekhar, Assistant Engineer M Mahesh and middlemen Jnaneshwar, Vijay Kumar and former Grama Panchayat president N B Vasu.

The case had been filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau based on the report filed by the Lokayukta, against a total of 46 members in connection with the land acquisition in villages under Yelwal hobli in Mysuru taluk.

The Third Additional District and Sessions Court has granted conditional bail to the accused. They have been directed to provide a surety of Rs 2 lakh worth bond and of two persons each.
