Mahadayi row: Mandya farmers block Mysuru-Bengaluru highway

Members of the Raita Sangha blocked the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway in support of the farmers, who are protesting over the Mahadayi issue in North Karnataka.

Kalasa-Banduri Horata Samanvaya Samiti members have been protesting for the past two years, demanding the government to resolve the Mahadayi River water-sharing issue. The farmers are demanding water for drinking purpose, but, both state and central governments have failed to take measures to resolve the issue, they said.

The political parties are playing with the lives of the farmers, instead of resolving the water issues. The BJP and the Congress, both parties have no intention to resolve the issue, they blamed.

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa is trying to check the farmers from protesting, by releasing a letter from Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The government should resolve the drinking water issue and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take necessary measures, they demanded.

Raita Sangha district president Shambuhali Suresh, farmer leaders P K Nagannagowda, Bommegowda, Latha Shankar, and Shivaramu were present.
