Three-day beach festival begins

The three-day beach festival, held as part of the Karavali Utsav, was flagged off on the shores of Panambur beach on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Friday.

The festival will conclude with New Year celebrations on Sunday.

Mangaluru Urban Development Authority Commissioner K Srikanth Rai inaugurated the Utsav by beating chende  (a percussion instrument).

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the beach Utsav has turned out to be an important feature of Karavali Utsav.

As part of the beach Utsav, various activities have been planned by the organisers. On Friday morning, beach volleyball and throwball competitions were held. Later in the evening, a Tulu songs competition and dance competitions were held.

On Saturday, beach volleyball and throwball competitions will be held. Winners of the singing competition will hold a musical evening.

On December 31, yoga will be held at 5 am followed by Udaya Raga by Swathi Rao and team at 6 am. Stand-up paddling will be held at 10.30 am while surfing will be held at 3 pm. Sand sculpture competitions will also be held.

On the concluding day, the Karavali Utsav Prashasti will be conferred. A special band will be held around midnight to celebrate the new year. A food festival will also be held on all the three days.
