Won't allow NY revelry in Indiranagar: residents

Last Updated 30 December 2017, 20:06 IST
Upping their ante against New Year revelry in Indiranagar, residents have said that they will not allow anyone to party in the locality.

Many people are expected to gather on MG Road and Brigade Road for the New Year. People should go there and celebrate rather than coming to the residential area, the residents said sending a strong message to those planning their party venues in the area.

"A senior officer has told people to go to Koramangala, Indiranagar or HSR Layout on December 31st for partying. It is not right. The partygoers should go to commercial places and not residential areas. We will not allow them to party in Indiranagar," said Aruna Newton, president, HAL 2nd Stage Civic Amenities and Cultural Association of Indiranagar.

"A lot of pubs and bars have come up in the locality even though Indiranagar is a residential area. According to the Supreme Court's order, commercial activities cannot be allowed in residential localities. But here they are illegally allowed. It has been causing a lot of trouble for us," she said.

Newton also said that there were about 28-30 illegal pubs functioning in the locality.

"We have already told police officers and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officers about this many a times.

The Joint Commissioner of East had also visited the place and issued orders to close down two rooftop pubs which did not have licenses. But these pubs started to function on the very next day," Newton added.
