Lack of hygiene depriving Raja Seat of its glory

The Raja Seat garden is the cynosure of all eyes in Madikeri for the visitors. However, over a period of time, miscreants are harming the beauty of the garden.

It is in Raja Seat where one gets a breathtaking view of the valley below. However, due to lack of cleanliness, it is slowly losing its beauty. Though the authorities have put up a board urging the visitors not to litter, tourists routinely dump plastic bottles and other garbage in the park. The toilet inside the park also lacks cleanliness.

Miscreants had set fire to the forest attached to Raja Seat recently. As a result, 10 acres of the forest land had been engulfed in fire. The authorities have only appointed a security guard recently for the garden. However, there is no security provided for the hilly range and the forest attached to it.

The musical fountain here has remained defunct for the last two years. The previous Deputy Commissioner, Richard Vincent D'Souza had directed the officials to repair the fountain before Dasara. However, even two months after the Dasara the fountain has not been repaired.

Speaking to DH, Vinod, a tourist said, "Raja Seat is losing its past glory. It should be developed on the model of Lalbagh in Bengaluru."
