Doctors' strike receives good response

The Nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday to protest the National Medical Commission Bill has received good response across the State.

Private hospitals and clinics have closed operations in in Hubballi, Belagavi, Chitradurga, Tumakuru and Kalaburagi, while there is heavy rush of patients at the Out Patient Department (OPD) in government hospitals.

Leading private hospitals in Hubballi such as Vivekananda, Tatvadarsha, Shakunthala, Shivakrupa, Lifeline and Suchirayu hospitals have stopped operations. The hospital managements have displayed a notice informing about the closure.

These hospitals are likely to resume operations after 6 pm.

However, lKIMS and Chitaguppi hospitals are functioning as usual.

The strike has received good response in Belagavi too. However, KLE Society's Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC is operating it's OPD.

" We haven't taken any decision yet support to the strike," public relations officer Basavaraj Sontanavar said.

DHO Appasaheb Narahari said: We've instructed government hospital medical staff to treat patients and avoid any inconvenience to them. We don't have any problem regarding drugs."

Private hospitals will resume operations by 6 pm.

In Chitradurga too, there has been good response to the strike with all private hospitals stopping operations.

However, the OPD at the Basaveshwara Medical College is functioning.

DHO B V Niraj said that the instructions had been issued to staff of the government hospitals to ensure treatment of patients.

There has been an increase of patients about 30 % in out patient department in government hospitals. There is likely to be heavy rush of patients at the OPD till evening.

Most private hospitals have remained closed in Tumakuru and the the district hospital has cancelled leaves granted to medical staff.
