Poll training from January 8

The Election Commission of India will commence a month-long training session for officials on the use of electronic voting machines (EVM) and the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines that will be introduced in the upcoming Assembly polls.

From January 8 to February 15, as many as 224 electoral officers and 363 assistant electoral officers will be trained in Mysuru. They will get certificates after an evaluation. Only those who clear the evaluation will be allowed to participate in the election process. Others will have to go through a refresher course. Earlier, training programmes were confined to just two days.

Sessions will be conducted by national-level experts who will teach EVM management and to deal with crisis situations. In March, the Election Commission will hold workshops for political parties, media and the public to demonstrate how the EVMs function.
