BBMP's drive on to recover land

The Palike removed as many as 150 unauthorised shops from the Sangam theatre vicinity. According to BBMP officials, the vendors have been accorded a space of 4 ft x 5 ft area as per law.

 “We are restricting the vendors to set up shops behind a yellow line drawn in the area,” said a Palike official. The demarcation process has been completed and the BBMP will now keep a watch on the vendors for the next 10-15 days. The BBMP has also cleared all the vendors who had set up shops inside the pedestrian subway.

On Tuesday, heeding to complaints of not enough space to walk in the area and also the encroachment by vendors in the pedestrian subway, Ashok had directed the BBMP to clear the area of unauthorised constructions in the next 24 hours.
