IMA to petition Guv for changes in KPME Bill

Doctors from the various private medical associations have expressed their differences on the changes made in the KPME Bill after holding discussions with the government. "We are yet to draft the memorandum. We will soon be doing it," said Dr B Veeranna, secretary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Doctors from various private hospitals' associations had differences of opinion with regards to the changes already made in the KPME Bill that was tabled late in November this year, Veeranna said.

He said the memorandum will demand inclusion of government hospitals in the Bill. Although a fews demands were made on the fixation of price and patients' charter, Dr Veeranna said, it is not appropriate to comment on what the memorandum involves, until it is drafted.

Meanwhile, doctors from the other associations, said that the decision to submit the memorandum was by the IMA and not from the associations of the other private medical institutions.

"We are satisfied with our discussion with the government and also with the results of the discussion. I do not think any changes can be made after the Bill is tabled," said Dr R Ravindra, secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA).
