Centre confirms virus outbreak in Dasarahalli

The Centre on Friday confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza in Dasarahalli village in Bengaluru, and deputed a team of officials to assist the state government in tackling the situation.

An official statement said that samples from a poultry shop in Dasarahalli village were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases. The institute had, on December 30, 2017, found the samples positive for the H5 strain of the avian influenza virus. "The government of Karnataka was intimated of the positive results immediately," the statement said.

A central team of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, comprising of two experts, has been deputed to Bengaluru for overseeing the operation and to assist the state government.

"There are no further reports of mortality from the state or any other part of the country. The situation is fully under control," the statement said.
