Poll bonanza: CM to lavish Rs 877.9 crore on home dist

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is touring the region as part of the Sadhana Samavesha (achievement convention), is expected to inaugurate and also lay foundation stone to works worth a total of nearly Rs 900 crore during his first visit to the district this new year, on Thursday.

A major chunk of the funds have been earmarked for Nanjangud Assembly constituency.

Touted to be the election campaign of the Congress party at the expenses of the government, the samavesha is expected to be a bonanza for the people of the district with the inauguration of a slew of projects under HD Kote, Varuna, Nanjangud and T Narsipur Assembly constituencies.

It has to be mentioned that Varuna is represented by the CM himself. Under Varuna segment, Siddaramaiah will inaugurate a girl's hostel and lay a foundation stone for the works on the development of roads at a cost of Rs 35 crore.

The CM will arrive in a helicopter at 11 am on Thursday at Sargur and lay a foundation stone for various development works under HD Kote segment on Cauvery Neeravari Nigam office premises. Sargur has been declared as a new taluk headquarters in the last budget. He will lay foundation stone to the proposed Itna bridge across Kapila River at a cost of Rs 20 lakh. He will inaugurate the drinking water project.

After arriving at the Mysuru Airport by helicopter at 1 pm, he will travel by road to Nanjangud. He will inaugurate the new bus stand and Mini Vidhana Soudha in the town and Hullahalli multi-village drinking water project and a bridge across River Kapila. He will also lay foundation stone to a few more projects and the total cost is estimated at Rs 484.76 crore.

Siddaramaiah will reach T Narsipur at 4 pm and inaugurate the new bus stand constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore in the town. He will also inaugurate a few buildings and launch works on road development.

The CM will halt at his residence in Mysuru and inaugurate the first Indira canteen on the premises of Command Area Development Authority near the Mysuru Palace on Friday morning and leave for Mandya.

While Nanjangud segment gets a major portion of the total funds of Rs 877.90 crore at Rs 484.76 crore, T Narsipur follows at Rs 242.94 crore, HD Kote at Rs 112.94 crore and Varuna at 37.25 crore. Nanjangud tops the list as a slew of projects were announced during the by-election, last year. A Congress leader said, District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa represents T Narsipur, which he intends to nurture for his son, and he himself aspires to contest from Nanjangud in the next polls. So he might have got the funds sanctioned in view of the ensuing polls, he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner T Yogesh, who is in-charge of the CM's tour in the district, said, a booklet on the achievements of the government in the district would be released. "Taluk-wise booklets will also be released," he said.
