Even before poll annocument, DC appoints sector officers

The district administration has appointed sector officials to all the nine Assembly constituencies in the district even before the declaration of poll dates and, subsequent implementation of model code of conduct.

This is said to be a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state. The officials have been entrusted with the responsibility of the revising the voters' list.

Booth-level officials are engaged in visiting voters' houses, inclusion of their names in the voters' list and distribution of applications to correct mistakes in voter ID cards. The sector officials will be supervising their work and verifying the documents. They are also visiting booths and registering fresh voters. Generally, this work is done after the announcement of poll dates and the model code of conduct comes into effect. It has appointed 172 sector officials for nine constituencies in the district. Each official has been entrusted with the responbility of at least 12 to 14 booths.
