Netanyahu to hold roadshow with Modi in Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again host a foreign dignitary in the city of Ahmedabad next week, this time Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"As per tentative schedule, Modi and Netanyahu will first visit Sabarmati Ashram on their arrival here (Ahmedabad) on January 17. Both the dignitaries will be accorded a grand welcome," Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani told mediapersons on Thursday.

Netanyahu will be the third head of state to land in Ahmedabad, after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Modi and Netanyahu are expected to reach Sabarmati Ashram in an 8-km roadshow from Ahmedabad airport, similar to the one held by Modi and Abe in September last year.

India, which has deep defence and security ties with Israel, is expected to discuss ways to increase cooperation in multiple fields, including trade, technology, agriculture and water management during Netanyahu's four-day visit.

Netanyahu will be the second Israeli premier to visit India after diplomatic ties were established between the two sides in 1992. His visit comes almost 15 years after the first visit by the then prime minister Ariel Sharon in 2003.
