The pre-monsoon rain, that lashed for nearly 30 minutes, has changed the climate of the town. People, who were striving to beat the summer heat, had a sigh of relief as the temperature reduced considerably due to the rains.

Though there were downpours in Bangalore, Mysore and many other places in the State for the past several days, it is for the first time that heavy rains lashed Madikeri. The town had witnessed moderate rains two weeks ago.

The rain caused inconvenience for the State-level Super Division Hockey League Championship, which is being held at the SAI Synthetic Turf Stadium in the town. The rains lashed at the end of the third match. However, the BPCL and Karnataka State Police (KSP) teams continued their show even in rain. The rain has brought joy among people that they expect solution to the drinking water crisis in the town. However, farmers, especially coffee growers, in other parts of the district are in despair as their crops are drying due to lack of rain.
