'Revival camp' for budding Yakshagana artistes from June 7

Yakshagana Academy will host the week-long camp

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Academy President Kumble Sundar Rao said that various aspects of Tenkutittu and Badagutittu Yakshagana forms will be covered during the camp and large portion of the camp will be dedicated for dance alone.

“Earlier professionalism among the artistes was higher. The artistes used to meet and interact with each other and used to follow the principles of art strictly. Today times have changed and modernisation has invaded this art in a big way. The basic principles of clothing and dance have been bent. The camp aims at reviving the ancient glory of the art by informing young artistes about the true form of the art,” he said and added that over 60 performing artistes are expected to participate in the camp.

The camp will be conducted by Bannanje Sanjeeva Suvarna and Kargallu Vishweshwara Bhat. Yakshagana exponent Hosthota Manjunath Bhagavatha, Senior Bhagavath of Tenkutittu form Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha, artistes Prof M L Samaga, Hosahithlu Mahalinga Bhat, Kolyur Ramachandra Rao, Cine actor Ramakrishna, Kalamandalam Shankarnarayana, Critic A Eshwaraiah, artiste K Govind Bhat, Researcher Dr M Prabhakar Joshi among others will be the resource persons for the camp.

The programme will be inaugurated by Home Minister Dr V S Acharya while SDM Institutions Vice-President Prof S Prabhakar will preside. The valedictory programme will be presided over by Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will preside while District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar and Odissi artiste Shama Rao will be the chief guests.  Academy Members Murali Kadekar and Chandrashekar Shetty were present.
