PVS Circle, Kodialbail area get a fresh look

The Ramakrishna Mission Swachhata Abhiyan was held near PVS Circle in Kodialbail area on Sunday.

The drive was flagged off by Ramesh Rao, Secretary of Mangalore Seniors Association and B Ganapathi Bhat of Besant College.

The NSS students of Beasnt College under the guidance of Andrew Rodrigues and Prof Amitha cleaned the roads from PVS Circle to Karangalpady. Another group under Chetana Katiyar cleaned drains. The students of KPT cleaned the compound walls and surrounding areas off the weeds and overgrown grass.

Bus shelter in Kodialbail was neglected due to poor maintenance. The volunteers of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan  cleared  all the posters and advertisments stuck to the bus shelter, and repainted the roof, giving it a face lift.

A footpath in front of Social Welfare department office was dilapidated and there was a danger of pedestrians falling into the drain. About 10 stone slabs were used to repair the footpath.

The compound walls of backward class department hostel was also cleaned. Heaps of garbage on the footpath nearby were cleared. The volunteers also visited the shops in the area and urged them to not throw the garbage on the footpath and help keep the area clean.

Compound walls were repainted. The walls will further be painted with graffiti  with social messages for the onlookers.

The MRPL is sponsoring the cleanliness drive.
