Rambhapuri seer targets pontiffs, politicians for decimating religion

Prasanna Veerasomeshwara Shivacharya Swami of Rambhapuri Mutt on Monday, criticised the politicians and pontiffs for bringing disrepute to the religion and 12th-century reformer Basavanna.

Speaking at a programme during the jatra mahotsava at Suttur in Nanjangud taluk, the Rambhapuri seer alleged that a few self-proclaimed seers are disturbing the system as if they are the sole stakeholders of Basavanna.

"They are creating a rift in the religion. Similarly, a few political leaders are trying to decimate the religion in the name of caste, which is a dangerous development," he said.

"We know how to protect the religion. Let the politicians do their work sincerely. Let them not mix religion and politics," he warned.

"The country and religion are like two eyes. Veerashaiva dharma has always given importance to humanity. Now, it is facing a danger. It has become inevitable to fight for retaining its position. All mutts should join hands for the betterment of the society. Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha should work actively in this regard," he said.

Suttur and Rambhapuri Mutt share a cordial relationship and the people of the Mysuru region are of the opinion that Veerashaivas and Lingayats are one and the same, he said.
